ARTWORK & The Healing Arts

Reconnect with the  art of healing through feeling and creative expression

A tiny seed needs many aspects to help it grow and flourish, as do we.  First of all it needs to let go of its ancestral mother tree, and  land and lie still in the dark loaminess of the earth

Art as Medicine

Creativity has long been an overlooked and often underrated, component of both mainstream educational and health systems. In mainstream education it is the sciences and technologies which seem to take priority when it comes to the 'value' of funding subjects, and in modern day western medicine, it is often only the isolation of a physical symptom and its scientifically proven pharmacological counterpart which are touted as 'real medicine', when in actual fact, surrounding factors of emotional, psychological, and energetic wellbeing become complete blindspots with regards to the holistic care of an actual human being.  this is not to say that modern day medicine does not have its place, there are many life preserving procedures and treatments are  truly incredible in many situations where there is loss of health, be it physical or mental health, but there are also many other parts of life which can be equally and in many cases more potent forms of medicine than simply taking a pill or having an op.

Holistic medicine can be both complimentary to western medicine, and it can also be a valuable preventative or restorative to a persons general sense of well-being and connection to self, to others and to the wider community in general.

The act of creating space for creative exploration and expression, can be of great support when embarking upon a healing journey, whether it is through healing movement, yoga,  dance, meditation, making art, drama therapy, play therapy, clay therapy, dreamwork, touch therapies, family constellations therapy or any other embodied practice, the essence of any healing arts practice is for a person to reconnect with a sense of where they have come from,  who they are at present, and who they are yet to become, as they move through the various transitions in life.

When we create a space for art and creativity to happen in life, then it can become a wonderfully enriching companion, which is able to reflect the beauty of all the challenges, and all of the successes we have faced in life, through the eyes and the the deep listening 'ears of the heart'. Creative exploration helps us to find solutions from within ourselves intuitively, which in turn creates a greater sense of empowerment and trust within the whole life process.

Art itself can be a wondefail catalyst to exploring the deeper questions that life asks, helping us to see things from a different perspective and embrace both the messiness and the natural order things form a different perspective.

How can I learn to embrace my creativity more as a healing art?

We can offer creative healing arts support in a number of ways. We can weave together a wealth of experience in working with clay, paint, breath, meditation, movement, dreams, somatic touch, family constellations, all with a foundation of the philosophies of yoga,  and shamanic practice.
